Greater Springfield has ticked the final box in the long list of prerequisites of a CBD with the city lights set to be switched on tonight.
After being successfully hoisted to the top of the ten storey Springfield Tower this afternoon the sign only needs to be fixed and plugged in before it will shine brightly in the booming western corridor.
Springfield Land Corporation's Managing Director Bob Sharpless said the NEC sign on Springfield Tower was a tremendous milestone for Greater Springfield and looked forward to sunset when the bright blue sign would be visible for the very first time.
"We are very proud to see this sign winched to the top of Springfield Tower because city lights were the final missing piece for the CBD.
"The NEC sign will be a bright and clear demonstration of global leaders such as NEC realising the business opportunities available in Greater Springfield," he said.
Claude Neon were commissioned to create the sign for global technology powerhouse NEC.
Claude Neon's Project Manager Chris O'Halloran said it was a fantastic project to be a part of and looked forward to switching the power on this afternoon.
"With Springfield Tower holding a 4 Star Green Star Rating it was important for us to create a very bright sign that had low energy requirements.
"The sign is made from thousands of LED lights that draw minimal power while still being extremely bright and obviously highly visible," he said.
"NEC are a major city partner for Greater Springfield and will play a major role in rolling out one of the most technologically advanced networks for the whole of Greater Springfield," Mr Sharpless said.
