Greater Springfield welcomes opening of first Masters Home Improvement in QLD

The visionary behind the country’s largest master planned community said a decision to open one of Queensland’s first Masters Home improvement stores at Greater Springfield is a planning masterstroke.
Springfield Land Corporation Chairman Maha Sinnathamby predicted many more big name companies would follow the move by one of the country’s largest supermarket chains’ Woolworths and its partner in Masters, U.S. giant Lowes.
“The decision to open one of its first stores in Springfield shows how much faith Woolworths and Lowes have in this growing area,” Mr Sinnathamby said.
“There are more than 541,000 people within a 22 minute drive time of Greater Springfield. Within the city itself, we anticipate it will become a city as big as Darwin in the next 30 years.
“Woolworths and Lowes are incredibly astute operators and they would not have made the decision to base themselves in Greater Springfield lightly.
“They’re getting in on the ground floor, establishing a significant presence in one of the country’s most rapidly growing satellite cities, a city which will house around 105,000 residents by 2030.
“The Springfield Masters store will offer both Springfield residents and those living in the Western Corridor access to more than 35,000 products, some of which are entirely new to Australian hardware stores.
“It’s an incredibly exciting day for this entire region because it shows how much confidence one of the country’s largest supermarket chains has in what we’re trying to achieve in Greater Springfield.
“This is a place where residents can live, study, work and play with everything within easy reach.
“The CBD has twice the land area of Brisbane’s, the federal government recently opened the
Western Corridor’s Medicare Local in Greater Springfield and other health, employment and education offerings will make it an incredibly desirable destination.”
Mr Sinnathamby said the greatest benefit of living in a master planned community like Greater Springfield was that in time there would be no real need to travel into Brisbane’s CBD for work.
“In recent years we’ve already found the travel time between Greater Springfield and Brisbane’s CBD has improved markedly and future infrastructure improvements like Legacy Way and Airport Link will continue to reduce the time spent commuting,” he said.
“The most recent data shows it takes on average an estimated 31 minutes to reach Greater Springfield from Brisbane’s CBD so it’s an easy trip for anyone keen to come and check out the new Masters store.
“By 2013 it’s anticipated the Springfield rail project and Transit-Oriented Development will also take thousands of cars off the road, making the journey even faster.”
