Green City Initiatives

Greater Springfield aims to be Australia’s Greenest City.

Being a new and master-planned city, world best practice environmental design principles have been incorporated into its development.

The city is already home to the most sustainable shopping centre in the country – Orion Springfield Town Centre, which has been awarded a 6-Star Green Star Rating by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).  The first commercial high-rise in the CBD, Springfield Tower has been given a 4-Star Green Star Rating by the GBCA.

Springfield Tower and the Orion Springfield Town Centre have a higher Green Star rating than most other buildings in Australia.  Their environmental pedigree is a direct result of Springfield’s strict planning rules.

All commercial buildings in the city must be at least 4 Star Green Star Rated.

The Polaris Data Centre, is the only Tier 3+ N+2 data centre in the world, and assist businesses in the city to lower their carbon footprint by outsourcing their IT requirements.

Brookwater, is another environmentally friendly example, where there is limited cut and fill, with the homes designed to marry with natural landform. There is also an architectural and landscaping standard ensuring all homes are individual in design yet complement the unique natural landscape.

St Augustine's College has also been recognised as Australia's highest solar power producing school and has received two $50,000 grants under the Federal Government's National Solar Schools Program.

Green space and numerous lakes have also given a number of focal points, while Robelle Domain is the city’s 24ha central parkland which acts as the green spine to the entire city.

All these standards combined have given the project human scale, allowing for more social interaction and a better quality of living.
