Greater Springfield will again play host to a leading national conference when Federal Climate Change and Water Minister Penny Wong MP and President of the Republic of Maldives H.E. Mohamed Nasheed join a high calibre panel of climate change experts at the 2009 Australian National Carbon Conference (ANCC) in August.

Conference Chairperson Dr. Ross Paul said the ANCC would assist delegates in understanding policy issues, financing implications and technologies which are emerging to provide low-carbon energy alternatives in an increasingly carbon constrained environment.

"Delegates at the inaugural ANCC will partake in active dialogue that will help them develop a range of policies and incentives to improve carbon management,

"So important is this conference, the President of the Maldives will be making the trip to Greater Springfield to make one of the keynote addresses," Dr Paul said.

The Maldives is the country with the lowest high point in the world (2.3m above sea level) and is at extreme risk of being ‘swallowed up' if global tides continue to rise.

Presented by Bakers Investment Group, the ANCC will be held on 27 and 28 August at Springfield's Education City and QUT at Brisbane City respectively.

"Other confirmed speakers for the ANCC include the Hon. Bernie Ripoll MP and Professor Jean Palutikof, Director of the National Climate Change Adaption Research Centre," Dr Paul said.

The Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Unions (CFMEU), World Bank, University of Southern Queensland, Arup, Dalkia, Macquarie Bank, Geodynamics, Springfield Land Corporation, MBD Energy, Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), Carbon Energy, Bakers Investment Group and Griffith University have also confirmed keynote speakers for the conference.

The office of the New Zealand Minister for Climate Change Issues has also given a preliminary positive response as to his availability to give a more regional perspective.

Chairman of Springfield Land Corporation Maha Sinnathamby welcomed the ANCC to Greater Springfield saying it would be a groundbreaking conference that would undoubtedly be attended by businesses from all over Australia that were serious about economically sustainable environmentally friendly operation principles.

"This year Greater Springfield has played host to the 2020 Queensland Forum on Health and the Education Roundtable. The 2009 ANCC is another example of Greater Springfield, and Queensland for that matter, leading the charge in proactive, innovative and forward looking initiatives that will make a real difference to the global business community and environment," Dr Sinnathamby said.

All delegates at the 2009 ANCC will also automatically become the first members of the Australian Cleantech Management Institute (ACMI) which will be launched at the conference.

The Australian Cleantech Management Institute is a collaboration between industry professionals, universities and leading training organisations, designed to provide the education and business tools needed to develop world class leaders in clean technology and carbon management.

"Members of ACMI will have access to a wide library of industry information, knowledge and research to gain the necessary skills needed which will help them to achieve better industry, economic and commercial outcomes," Dr Paul said.

Earlybird registration closes on 31 July and with delegate numbers strictly limited interested organisations are encouraged to secure their places immediately to avoid disappointment.
