New urban village given go ahead at Brookwater

Businesses interested in moving to Greater Springfield have a new place to call home with the approval of the $1.1 billion shopping and residential precinct, Brookwater Urban Village.

Since launching its We Mean Business campaign, the Springfield Land Corporation has been kept busy with enquiries from businesses who are keen to find out what's on offer at Australia's largest master planned development.

The We Mean Business campaign aims to poach businesses from around the globe by offering a complete business package available at Greater Springfield.

Ipswich City Council approved the development of the Brookwater Urban Village, with proposed facilities including 514 residential dwellings (including more than 400 apartments), 150 hotel rooms, 20,000m2 of commercial space, 15,000m2 of retail area and indoor entertainment offerings.

Springfield Land Corporation's Executive General Manager of Planning and Infrastructure Russell Luhrs said development of the vibrant Brookwater Urban Village was an important step in planning for the future centres of Greater Springfield that will provide valuable services for the community.

"The development of the Urban Village over the next 15 years will see the creation of a high quality precinct giving the community an outstanding place to eat, live, shop and enjoy life."

Once completed the Brookwater Urban Village will provide a mix of business and pleasure with the Brookwater Village Hotel, Brookwater Office Park, Brookwater Village Shopping Centre, Main Street and Village Square framed by a range of quality living options.

"The residential apartments to be built as part of this new precinct will expand on the already diverse range of housing options available in Greater Springfield," he said.

"The signature hotel complex will also form an integral part of the development by allowing visitors from around the globe direct access to the Greg Norman designed Brookwater Golf Course which has been ranked the number one public golf course in Queensland for the past five years.

"In addition, the Urban Village will be built just a two minute drive from the largest planned shopping centre in Australia, Orion Springfield Town Centre, and a three minute drive from Education City and the future Health City Springfield."

Ipswich City Councillor and Chair of the Planning and Development Committee, Paul Tully, said Brookwater Urban Village would complement the CBDs of Springfield and Ipswich City and confirm the Western Corridor as Queensland's fastest growing region.

"Brookwater Urban Village will be a great asset to what is already one of the country's most desirable business and residential addresses," Councillor Tully said.

A recent independent survey of 500 business leaders throughout Australia revealed almost 48 per cent would prefer to move to South-East Queensland over Melbourne or Sydney.

The major reasons why a company would move locations cited in the survey include cheaper lease (28%), custom-built premises (16%), proximity to public transport (15.5%), location within a business hub (14.3%), a workforce living within 5 minutes (7.8%) and access to world-class IT (7.4%).

"Greater Springfield offers all of this and more now with the approval of the Brookwater Urban Village and is certain to drive further interest from businesses across Queensland and around Australia," Mr Luhrs said.

Businesses that accept the opportunity to move to Greater Springfield are also in the running to win an incentive package worth half a million dollars.  More information on the We Mean Business campaign, competition and prize is available at www.greaterspringfield.com.au/business

The Brookwater Urban Village will be built next door to the Augusta Parkway and the Brookwater Golf Course and Clubhouse.

The area currently has access to Augusta Parkway and the adjoining Centenary Highway and will be well serviced by the future Springfield Central train station.
