Greater Springfield is officially Australia's best development after dominating the National Urban Development Institute Association (UDIA) awards in Sydney last night.

In a coup for Queensland, Greater Springfield took out both the Master-Planned Community Award as well as the most prestigious award of the night, The President's Award.

The awards are recognition by industry peers for Springfield Land Corporation Chairman Maha Sinnathamby and Managing Director Bob Sharpless who had the vision to turn 2,860 hectares of unused land in South East Queensland into one of the biggest master planned communities in Australia.

"Winning this award means a lot to us, a lot of people over the past 18 years have put in a lot of hard work to make Greater Springfield what it is today," Mr Sinnathamby said.

Each year more than $600 million in development work is undertaken as Greater Springfield prepares itself to cater for an equivalent population of 105,000 by the year 2030.

"There really is nothing like our Greater Springfield in the whole of Australia and I am so glad the judges recognised that," he said.

"I think what has been fundamental to our success is that since the beginning of this project we have concentrated on gaining the necessary approvals and putting the infrastructure in place to support the city's future growth.

"Once everything was on track we began to see the rewards and Greater Springfield continues to grow by 3 families per day.

The heart of the project is the Greater Springfield CBD.  At 390 hectares, the CBD land area is twice the size of Brisbane CBD.

"We have always planned for our CBD to become South East Queensland's second business hub. This is vital for Queensland as it will take pressure off Brisbane and help control South East Queensland's growing pains," he said.

"It is why we are running our ‘We Mean Business' promotion offering up to $500 000 in incentives to convince business from across Australia and indeed the world to move here.

"By 2030, Greater Springfield will have a CBD twice the land size of Brisbane's and will boast some of Australia's biggest companies.

"We have already opened the  CBD with the 10 storey $60 million Springfield Tower and one of the most exciting technological developments in Australia; the $230 million Polaris Tier III+ Data Centre which hosts mission-critical ICT systems.

"Springfield also can boast a privately funded dark-fibre communications network to Brisbane - the first of its kind in Queensland ensuring business are connected to high-speed Internet and interstate locations at all times.

"In 2006 the 18-hectare master planned precinct called Education City opened with a campus of the University of Southern Queensland, Bremer TAFE, St Peters Lutheran College and a number of other providers. When the 52 hectare Health City is completed it will be a comprehensive health and wellness precinct with a new approach to integrated community health care and will employ tens of thousands of people.

"We have the infrastructure in place so that no matter what need your business has, we can deliver."

Mr Sinnathamby said the $19 billion development is a fully integrated community providing jobs, education, health and an affordable and attractive lifestyle underpinned by world-class technology.

"It is the quality, accessibility, reliability and security of technology platforms and infrastructure that future developments will be judged on," he said.

"We will now use the UDIA's recognition to help us convince more businesses and people to call Greater Springfield home."
