Hot newcomers to the youth music scene, Operator Please, are turning it
on for South East Queenslanders at a free all-ages gig for Education City
Fiesta in Greater Springfield on Saturday 23 August 2008.
Operator Please will play their first free Brisbane
gig this year after having just returned from a whirlwind tour of Europe and Japan including a show at the famed Glastonbury
Festival and more recently, at Splendour in the Grass at Byron Bay. The five young Gold Coast locals are looking
forward to rocking with the more than 3,000 people expected to attend the
Fiesta.
The concert will run in conjunction with the University of Southern
Queensland (USQ) Springfield Open Day, giving attendees the opportunity to
check out what’s on offer at the Springfield Campus, from both USQ and other
educational institutions including ABC Learning Centre, Australia City College,
MEGT, The Bremer Institute of TAFE, Specialised Training Services, St Peters
Lutheran College and Union Institute of Language.
Springfield Land Corporation Executive Director of Education City
and Health City,
Mr Jim Varghese, said Education
City is delighted to have
Operator Please as the headline entertainment at the Fiesta.
“We’re thrilled to have Operator Please performing a free show at 1pm for
Greater Springfield residents and visitors.
Their performance will cap off a great family day of rides, food and
market stalls, and we welcome the entire local community, not only potential
students, to join in the fun,” Mr Varghese said.
“This is a great opportunity to enjoy some free fun and see what Education City has to offer and I urge potential
students, parents, visitors and locals alike to come along and check out our growing
facilities.
“The international success of a young band like Operator Please
demonstrates how much can be achieved with determination, commitment and a love
for what you do. Their passion and drive
sets an example for all young people who have dreams and goals.”
The band’s bassist Ashley McConnell is a believer that you have to put
in an effort in order to achieve what you want.
“We've worked really hard and it's a bonus that some people like what
we do," Ashley said.
Greater Springfield’s Education City
philosophy of offering lifelong learning brings together a wide range of
training and learning facilities in the one location. The campus offers diverse programs for
students of all ages through a unique partnership with providers and associated
businesses. Education
City is a joint venture
by Springfield Land Corporation and Mirvac Developments.
