Petition for Hospital in Springfield Central

Local resident and President of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, Kym Wickstein has garnered the support of the community in championing a state government petition for a hospital in Springfield Central. Nearly 500 residents have already signed this online petition, to support the establishment of a Mater private hospital in Greater Springfield.
Mater Health Services and Springfield Land Corporation are keen to build a private hospital to cater for Greater Springfield and the surrounding region's booming population.
Terry Kearney, Executive General Manager – Health and Education, Springfield Land Corporation said the Hospital is a key pillar in the development of health services in Greater Springfield.
“One of the highest projected population growth areas in the country is the East Ipswich SLA. It is known that significant Brisbane hospital admissions come from this area.
Ultimately the private hospital allows Mater Health Services to provide immediate health services to a booming population.
The private hospital is a key pillar in the development of health services as it becomes the stimulus for other health, wellness and aged care services that would co-locate in Health City.”
Terry Kearney also said the private hospital is predicated on having significant public patient funding.
“The petition is in support of a public/private hospital. The development of the private hospital is predicated on having significant public patient funding which will allow public patients to use the hospital for funded services.”
State Member for Bundamba Jo-Ann Miller said the Minister for Health will have to respond to the petition in the parliament.
“The Queensland Government need to know how strongly the community feel about a private hospital in the area.” She said.
The online petition number is “1845-12 Petition for Private Hospital at Springfield” go to www.parliament.qld.gov.au/en/work-of-assembly/petitions/e-petitions
