Recent research has revealed more companies are choosing to move their offshore call centres back to Australia and Springfield has been identified as the perfect spot to locate them.
Access Economics found many companies with call centres were searching for ways to continue to keep costs at a minimum but improve the quality of service provided.
Global market research agency callcentres.net said its own independent research had found Springfield answered both criteria, saving companies millions with lower overheads than Australia's capital cities and, because of its proximity to Brisbane, access to a larger number of quality staff than most regional centres or overseas destinations.
callcentres.net Director and report author Dr Catriona Wallace said choosing the right location for a call centre was critical to its success and Springfield offered an alternative model to offshore and regional locations.
"A call centre's location can affect everything from operational costs to staff retention and public perception," Dr Wallace said.
"Our research found that when you compared the staff and operational costs of a setting up a 200 seat call-centre in Springfield to establishing a city-based operation, Springfield offered a potential savings of about 10 per cent or about $2million.
"Because of its unique position just outside a capital city Springfield has a potential workforce of almost 850,000 people within 60 minutes of its CBD. It also has similar benefits to a regional location and staff are likely to stay longer, take fewer sick days and work more productively.
"We also considered factors such as the variety of workforce skills available, average salaries, proximity to suitable accommodation, education and transport and we found Springfield, due to its purposeful design, performed well in these areas."
Springfield Land Corporation General Manager of Leasing Glenn Dumbrell said he welcomed the research results which confirmed moving call centres to Springfield made smart business sense.
"Now we have independent research to prove Springfield's suitability, we invite all call centre operators to come and see first-hand why Springfield should be their new business home," Mr Dumbrell said.
"Having access to appropriate communications facilities is vital for any call centre and I know of no other city in Australia that offers its own $230 million data centre and dark fibre communications network."
This push to poach call centres is a continuation of Springfield's We Mean Business campaign which aims to attract and steal business from major cities around the world.
A survey revealed at the campaign launch earlier this year showed almost 50% of Australian businesses surveyed would prefer to move their business to South-East Queensland.
