Utilities & Infrastructure

Infrastructure rollout in the project continues with significant projects, commenced during 2006, to be delivered over the next 3 years, these being :-

  • Centenary Highway / Ipswich Motorway Interchange upgrade, by Brisbane City Council/Main Roads. Commenced construction in October 2005, estimated $42 million, with completion early 2008
  • Centenary Highway extension Stage 2 from Springfield to Ripley Valley commenced 3rd quarter 2006, estimated at $240 million. Completion scheduled for 2009, with link to Ipswich, Swanbank and Amberley to the west
  • Brisbane to Springfield Dark Fibre Network – the Stage 1 link via QRail and Goodna - $2.1 million to Brisbane now operational – diverse path to Brisbane CBD to be completed during 2007 via Greenbank/QRail network
  • Public transport in the first instance will be delivered by a bus service between Education City / Orion under the Ipswich Brisbane Rail Line. These are in place now, under the management of Translink
  • The Springfield rail line from Darra was a 2005 commitment by the Queensland Government via its SEQ Regional Plan and accompanying Infrastructure Plan. The construction of this $780 million project has now been approved and will be built by John Holland Constructions with a forecast completion in 2015
  • All services were extended into the CBD by December 2006. These include Water and Sewer mains, Telstra fibre networks, Energex power including a new 33KVA substation and gas lines
  • Springfield also enjoys strategic relationships with both Telstra and Energex as both organizations appreciate the business opportunities that present themselves when building a city, and its associated infrastructure, for some 100,000 people.
