Greater Springfield has been officially recognised as Queensland's foremost master planned community after winning its category at the UDIA Suncorp Queensland Awards for Excellence.
The award is recognition for Springfield Land Corporation Chairman Maha Sinnathamby and Managing Director Bob Sharpless who had the vision to turn 2,860 hectares of unused land in South East Queensland into one of the biggest master planned cities in Australia.
"Winning this award means the world to us, a lot of people over the past 17 years have put in a lot of hard work to make Greater Springfield what it is today," Mr Sinnathamby said.
Each year more than $600 million in development work is undertaken as the city prepares itself to cater for an equivalent population of 105,000 by the year 2030.
"There really is nothing like Greater Springfield in the whole of Australia and I am so glad the judges recognised that," he said.
"I think what has been fundamental to our success is since the beginning of this project we have concentrated on gaining the necessary approvals and putting the infrastructure in place to support the city's future growth.
"Once everything was on track we began to see the rewards and more recently it is evident our city is coming to life and growing every day."
The heart of the project is the Greater Springfield CBD. At 360 hectares, the CBD land area is twice the size of the Brisbane CBD.
Mr Sinnathamby said Greater Springfield is a fully integrated community, which means a city that provides jobs, education, health and an affordable and attractive lifestyle underpinned by world-class technology.
"It is the quality, accessibility, reliability and security of technology platforms and infrastructure that future developments will be judged on," he said.
"We will now use the UDIA's recognition to help us convince more businesses and people to call Greater Springfield home."
