Words from the Chairman

Friends,

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website.

The city of Greater Springfield continues to be one of the most dynamic urban growth areas in Queensland.  Since its inception in 1992, we have developed some 13% of our total land area of 2,860 hectares and already there are nearly 23,000 people living in Greater Springfield.

I am in the fortunate position of watching a unique city growing into its master plan with education, health and technology as its cornerstones.

Education is the currency of the future and is central to the Greater Springfield story. We are building a lifelong learning precinct called Education City because we are committed to investing in human capital.

Around 14 years ago we welcomed our first student to the city and now there are more than 8,700 students learning in Greater Springfield in one form or another. That is staggering growth by anyone’s measure and that number will grow as the city expands.

We are also building an integrated health precinct called Health City, an area where various health services will be accessible in an area of 52 hectares. However, our commitment to health is not just about access to services, it is about creating a healthy city which uses master planning to encourage sustainable and healthy transport like walking and cycling.

To that end, our $30 million parkland called Robelle Domain is now open and not only provides amenity and green space to students and residents alike, it also welds parts of the city via cycling and walking paths.

Perhaps the most exciting development of all is the Springfield rail project and this Transit-Oriented Development will enable two world-class train stations.

The State Government is building a passenger rail line to Springfield due for completion by 2013.  It is a visionary $475 million investment in public transport in the Western Corridor which, for the next two years, will see around $700,000 spent per working day on shifting people from road to rail.

I hope once you have explored our website you will have a better understanding of the Greater Springfield story and accept my invitation to come and see it for yourself.

Regards
