Brookwater’s first hair salon is only 18 months old but is already making a positive difference by helping provide more than 90,000 meals to people in need.

Jamie King and Terri Willoughby are the award-winning sister duo and owners of Brookwater’s first hair salon, Bohemia Hair Lounge, which offers a high-end, sustainable hairdressing experience.

The salon opened in March last year within the Brookwater Village Shopping Centre and is part of the Sustainable Salons initiative which collects and repurposes salon waste.

The sisters said they were deeply passionate about helping others and the environment and were grateful for the support they had received from the community so far.

“We are very proud to say we are a Sustainable Salon which means we recycle all our salon waste, including left over colour,” Mrs King said.

“As part of that, every time waste is purchased for repurposing, one dollar is donated to OzHarvest which delivers food to 600 charities across Australia, free of charge.

“So when you visit our salon you help support hungry Australians.”

Collectively the sisters have more than 20 years of experience between them, including gigs at the Sydney Hair Expo and working backstage at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

Despite the various career highlights, the sisters said opening Bohemia Hair Lounge was by far their proudest achievement.

“For as long as I can remember we have always dreamed of opening a salon together,” Mrs Willoughby said.

“Our mum had two successful salons in Adelaide which we used to looked after, so it all started with her.

“We are very close and trust each other, so we work well together and spend most of our time laughing.”

The pair chose Brookwater to open their business due to demand from the community.

Brookwater Residential general manager Nick Kostellar said the salon was a welcome addition to the community.

“Brookwater Village offers convenience-style retail right on people’s doorstep,” Mr Kostellar said.

“Bohemia Hair Salon is a great addition to support our Brookwater residents with a premium hair salon.

“This is a community all about its people, so to see a business which not only provides a top service with the values of supporting others, that’s the kind of business we love to see here in Brookwater.”
