The south-east Queensland city of Greater Springfield is home to one of Australia’s biggest Mormon churches and one of the largest and most popular churches in Ipswich.
The multi-million dollar, 1200-seat Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints centre has a larger seating capacity than any church in the region, south-west of Brisbane, and will rank among the state’s largest.
The Church of Latter-Day Saints in Augustine Heights features a chapel, large hall for recreation including a basketball court, video conference facilities and 12 rooms for teaching and education.

Centenary Stake President Adam Hannant said Mormonism was rapidly growing in Queensland.
“We have about 3500 members in the local stake, covering eight congregations, and expect that to increase rapidly as more families move here,” Mr Hannant said.
The Mormon church in Springfield services residents across the Ipswich area, including Springfield, Springfield Lakes, Augustine Heights, Brookwater, Bellbird Park, and the region from Woogaroo Creek to Redbank Plains.
“We need a modern centre like this to bring everyone together under one roof.
Springfield City Group Managing Director Raynuha Sinnathamby said the new church added an important spiritual dimension to the multicultural city.
“Brisbane’s western corridor is growing quickly, and the diverse community is reflected in the breadth of faiths represented here,” Ms Sinnathamby said.
“We are an inclusive city, and welcome people from all over Australia and the world to call Greater Springfield home.”
Ipswich Division 2 Councillor Paul Tully said the new Mormon church was indicative of the region’s bright future.
“I’m very proud that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has chosen the suburb of Augustine Heights to build a new church,” Cr Tully said.
