The Mater Private Hospital Springfield

The Mater Group is meeting the growing healthcare needs of the Greater Springfield community through the Mater Private Hospital Springfield (MPHS).

Stage One of MPHS is an 80-bed, $85 million hospital providing a range of medical and surgical services as well as a combination of inpatient, day and chemotherapy beds supported by $21.4 million in Australian Government funding for a cancer care centre.

Mater Group has entered into an agreement with Metro South and West Moreton Hospital and Health Services to provide treatment and care to 4800 uninsured patients at the hospital each year, in addition to insured patients. In essence, the Mater Private Hospital Springfield provides care to both private and public patients, providing a hub of world-class medical services for the entire Greater Springfield community.

The 10,000 m2 facility includes four operating theatres, inpatient wards, a day surgery unit and medical imaging services. The state-of-the-art  Icon Cancer Centre Radiation and Oncology offers medical oncology via Mater Hospital and radiation oncology provided by Icon Cancer Centre.

There are also 15 medical oncology treatment bays and one linear accelerator for radiation therapy treatment. Mater Private Hospital Springfield’s Development & Expansion

Mater has a master plan for the hospital precinct within Health City Springfield Central, which incorporates a number of expansion stages which will be rolled out to meet the demands of the region. In total, the Mater Private Hospital Springfield is preapproved for a staggering 1200 beds/ MPHS will offer an innovative, unique and contemporary model of holistic care and will provide patients exceptional acute and sub-acute treatment and care, while also promoting wellness and illness prevention.

Plans for the Mater Private Hospital Springfield development were originally unveiled at Health City Springfield Central in May of 2013 and construction began in August of that same year. But Stage One of the Mater Private Hospital project is just the beginning. Mater has a master plan for the hospital precinct of Health City Springfield which incorporates a number of expansion stages designed to meet the growing demands of the region.

A landmark partnership between Mater and the State Government announced in 2021 will expand healthcare services for people living in Springfield Central and other parts of Brisbane’s burgeoning Western Corridor. The collaboration with Queensland Health would enable the delivery of Stage 2 of the Mater Private Hospital Springfield Master Plan, to be constructed on part of Mater’s 8.7h site at Springfield Central. Stage 2 of the Master Plan would increase the total number of beds at Mater’s Springfield hospital to 234 with 174 public patient beds and the remainder for private patients.

The Mater Private Hospital Springfield is located at 30 Health Care Drive (off Sinnathamby Boulevard) in Springfield Central.

For patients and visitors seeking parking at the Mater Private Hospital, the site features an open-air carpark directly adjacent to the hospital campus featuring drop off zones leading to the main entrance to both the main hospital and the Icon Cancer Care Centre which provides radiation and oncology services. A 5 minute drop off time is allowed within these zones. Utilising the Mater Private Hospital Springfield car park requires payment before exiting at the pay station situated within and surrounding the hospital car park. In 2017, Mater Private Hospital Springfield was a finalist in the Property Council of Australia/Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards for their individual room control. Engineering consultants Norman, Disney & Young created an innovative solution to patient comfort, allowing patients to independently adjust the temperature, blinds and lighting of their room.

Since 2013, Springfield City Group and Mater Foundation have jointly hosted the Greater Springfield Ball raising funds for Mater in the community. Mater Foundation is the community-based fundraising organisation that supports the work of Mater HealthMater Education and Mater Research. The Foundation raises funds through a wide range of different programs to help support Mater’s provision of exceptional health care, education and investment in world-leading medical research.
