Greater Springfield is the proud new home of the region’s first one-stop shop for respiratory services. Respiratory and Sleep physician Dr Geoff Fanning and Queensland Respiratory Services (QRS) chief scientist Shane Power have combined forces to provide a medical hub specialising in a range of respiratory conditions. The new practice which opened last week is the first tenant of the Greater Springfield Specialist Suites and is located next to Mater Private Hospital Springfield and adjacent to Aveo Springfield.
Dr Fanning said being so close to the hospital and having everything under one roof would ultimately mean better patient outcomes.

“For most hospitals having a service like this nearby is really invaluable as it helps guide inpatient management, as well as out-patients,” Dr Fanning said.
“Greater Springfield is an area of rapid growth, so having a health hub such as this available to the people in the region will be extremely beneficial.
“It presents a wonderful opportunity, providing health care in close proximity, improving their health care options and decreasing the travel involved in their care.
“I am sure the services will be welcomed by the practitioners and patients from the region.”

QRS is the largest diagnostic respiratory service in Australia, with its Springfield Central office marking the 13th to open in the State and the first of its kind in Greater Springfield to provide lung function testing.
Mr Power said the move made sense due to the demand for respiratory services.
“It was a logical next step for us to move here as the closest similar service is either in Ipswich or Sunnybank, so there was definitely a need for us to be in Greater Springfield,” he said.
“We perform a range of lung function testing and allergy testing which is used mainly to guide treatment for the physician.

“Generally patients will see a respiratory scientist first once they’ve been referred to someone such as Dr Fanning. The doctor will then explain the results of the lung function test and advise on treatment.”
Springfield City Group commercial development director Uma Ranchigoda welcomed the service.

“We’re thrilled to have QRS and Dr Fanning here to offer even more world-class medical services to our residents,” Mrs Ranchigoda said.
“The specialist suites are part of our Health City master plan and a key component to setting Greater Springfield apart as a city of national significance pioneering in the health space.”
