Greater Springfield’s modern day Fort Knox has had lots to celebrate recently, hitting two major milestones for the first half of the year. The Polaris Data Centre is regarded as one of Australia’s leading, highly-secure data centres and celebrated a decade of protecting some of Australia’s most sensitive data in February.
The centre services everything from large blue-chip international organisations to Australian Federal Government agencies. Manager Warren Knight has been at the forefront of overseeing the tier three designed facility and said he still gets a thrill when he walks in the door. “It’s been a pleasure being here from the start,” Mr Knight said.
“One third of our original staff members still work at Polaris and I think that says something about what a great place it is to work here.”
The $275 million Centre is managed by Veolia and owned and fully operated by the Springfield City Group.
The second major achievement for Polaris Data Centre this year was taking out third place in a prestigious data centre ranking. According to the findings by Brisbane-based data centre and cloud services directory provider Cloudscene, Polaris has been ranked number three in Queensland for connectivity.
Springfield City Group Head of Data Centres Adam Gibson said the ranking would mean more options for the Centre’s current and future tenants. “I’ve been here for two years and in industry, Polaris is well known for its resilience and its support for wholesale partners including large corporates and cloud services,” Mr Gibson said.
“Our connectivity enables not just top tier carriers to have their internet services in Greater Springfield, it also brings start-ups and small business providers in to build and create a platform of difference.
“Polaris as a whole is working on two more technology data centre-related concepts for this region and has space available to grow with its partners and to look at new partners coming into the Queensland market.”
The Polaris Data Centre is located on 11 Mary Mackenroth Lane, Springfield Central
